Walsingham Farms Shop is recruiting a full time, deli chef/assistant. Working in our deli department.

Our aim is to provide an exceptional customer experience. Delivering quality, locally made, farmed and produced food and drink products. We embrace the theatre of shopping. Being here should be a pleasurable, fun experience whether you are watching our butchery or game pies being made or tasting something from a nearby producer. Shopping with us is experiencing Norfolk food.

HOURS AND LENGTH OF CONTRACT

Hours vary with seasonal opening hours but are generally 35 – 45 per week, over five days. Roles would include regular weekend working. Availability for bank holidays and seasonal school holidays is crucial.

PAY

Dependant on experience and catering knowledge.

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE

The role of the deli assistants and chefs is to provide a positive and welcoming first and last point of contact for our customers at our deli counter and to offer an excellent customer service both in person and via other methods of communication. The team also prepares all our fresh food items, cooking throughout each shift, management of stock and ordering systems. You will be required to work to an operational rota as part of an effective deli team covering the whole deli and food operation of Walsingham Farms Shop.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is intended to provide guidance as to duties, but it is not exhaustive.

  • Assist in the day to day running of the deli.
  • To aid where required ordering selected products with suppliers.
  • To assist with covering lunch breaks in other departments of the shop as required.
  • To ensure that you provide the highest standards of customer service to all our customers. This will include looking for ways of exceeding customers’ expectations, anticipating customers’ needs and responding positively in all your communications with customers – in person, over the phone and via emails.
  • To provide a warm and friendly welcome to visitors of all ages and to develop relationships with customers so that they feel welcome and valued, increasing the likelihood of their repeat custom.
  • To reconcile and record transactions, wastage, stock, traceability information.
  • To serve on our food service system and handle all fresh food items.
  • To upsell and encourage sales of products and services we offer throughout the shop and particularly related to the deli.
  • To display products within our deli counter and chillers and aid the design and preparation of seasonal displays.
  • To assist and contribute with the preparation and execution of resources for seasonal events and off-site activities.
  • To develop and maintain a high level of knowledge and understanding of the products and services we offer to our customers.
  • To replenish stock when needed and to ensure all deliveries are recorded and put away or displayed in a timely manner.
  • Role includes basic and some advanced cookery and food preparation.
  • To follow the correct opening and closing procedures and food safety and HACCP procedures for the deli department reporting any concerns to the Duty Manager.
  • To be responsible for day-to-day maintenance, appearance and cleaning of the deli areas including completing daily check lists as required.
  • To adhere to the Company’s Health and Safety policy at all times.
  • To adhere and maintain the high levels of food safety and cleanliness throughout the shop.
  • If trained to administer First Aid if necessary.

To make a positive contribution to the work of the deli team and other departments when required.

  • Experience in kitchen/cookery is essential.

  • You must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.

TRAINING

You will be required and encouraged to engage in a programme of professional development as required. Some training will require completing online courses at home.
